The History of Chautauqua County, New York (FHL 974.795 H2y, 1990) (1875) states that Charlotte was formed from Gerry April 18, 1829. David Randall and family moved there in May, 1826 (along with others from Rockingham). This history explains at 252: “At a meeting of the citizens held at the house of David Randall at the Center, at the suggestion of Mrs. Randall, the town was named from a town having that name on Lake Champlain, in Vermont.” Thus, Martha went down in history as having named Charlotte, New York.
