• Greetings – and a bit of history – to show you that you, nearly, are a part of our celebration –
Love to you all from Your Michigan Cousins
Tom and Beth (Mills) Currie
841• Dear Nelson --
Thank you for waiting - I thought you might be dead before I could get up energy to pack up the Genealogy and write this note.
Since I can’t see Tom I just don’t seem to care what I do -- so I don’t do anything. Not even write a letter.
Our neighbor (who likes to study genealogies) fixed these papers from some that my Dad, (your Uncle Myron) had -- and if you don’t want them, maybe your son, David, will -
When we get back to 1620, I get a little confused -
I’m only 89 - last July 14th. My friends tell me to stay here (for a year) before I make any decision what to do - and the Banker says, “stay there as long as Real Estate is so low” -
The housekeeper we had is staying for a while - she is my greatest stand-by -
I still drive the car, when I feel like it - otherwise a friend of Tom’s, who lives near, will take me to do errands. He is a good driver - (only he is 83 and beginning to get deaf!!). This growing
old is the invention of the Devil -
Right now I’ve got to quit - I’m tired and my arm is weak.
Lots of love, dear, to Virgie, and you - and all my Cousins -
Keep well and have fun while you can -
Beth

840• A great many years ago I began to write this card to you. It has remained in my box - alone - till now. Last Sunday when Conrad came in (when he had your "genealogy" letter), I felt it was time to make your acquaintance. My hands are quite stiff and I often don't feel like writing - but - on October 5, I had written to your Grandfather Nelson and sent some papers which might interest you and your Dad, David.
I am a Cousin of your Grandfather - I am Mary Elizabeth Mills Currie. I went to school with Tom. He became an electrician and travelled around a lot of the country after World War I. We were married in 1945.
Your grandfather brought his wife Harriet and the three Boys, Barney, David and Donald to Marysville, once. It has changed since then.
If you were here, I could tell you our history a lot more easily. Please write to me again. I grew to be 89 years of age on July 14, 1983. My husband, Tom Currie, died June 29, 1983. I wish I could have gone then too - But, I didn't.

• Beth told me she had been engaged to an Army officer (Lt. Johnson, Johnston?) during the WWI, but he was killed during that time -- don’t remember how. Also according to the local gossip (I didn’t live in this area during that era) and the story goes -- Beth was supposed to have had a brother, Robert. Seems that Beth and her mother went West, probably Colorado, and some say western Mi, like Battle Creek, and Robert was born during this stay. It’s been said that Robert was not Beth’s brother but her son. He was continually in trouble of all sorts, law, etc., and finally ended in a prison in Pa., where he died or committed suicide.
