Individual Notes
• Just about the time Kiyosue was entering Kansai Gakuin in Kobe, a little three year old girl was brought to the Japanese orphanage in San Francisco. Her mother had died at child birth in Carson City, Nevada, and her father had been killed in an accident. Little Minnie Shimizu was a bright, chubby little girl with jet black hair and pretty doe-like eyes.2729, p 183

• Several days later, Mr. and Mrs. Trueblood were visiting an old friend, Mary Gallagher, who lived in Palo Alto near Stanford University, and Mrs. Trueblood said
“Mary, the other day I visited the Japanese orphanage in San Francisco and saw the prettiest little girl. She couldn’t have been more than three years old, but she was alert and as cute as a button. They said she was brought in when her father was killed. Her mother died when she was born.”2729, p 184

• When they were getting ready to leave, she [Mary] said
“Would it be very foolish for me to want to take care of this child you have told me about—this little Minnie Shimizu?
This was the beginning of a new life for both Mary Gallagher and little Minnie, for soon after that, Minnie came to live with mary, and it was not long before the latter adopted Minnie legally. Minnie grew up to be affectionately known as “Minnie Kimura, daughter of Mary Gallagher Kimura” for Grandma Gallagher wanted to protect her by giving her married name to the child.2729, p 184
