• Removed to Bedford county, Penn., with his parents when still very young. In March, 1852, he emigrated to Jefferson county, Iowa, leaving it in 1854 for California; he first settled in Sierra county in August of that year, and at once commenced mining operations.
D. W. Harrier is one of the leading men in the city. He was among those who started the Vallejo Bank, and was its President from 1876 to 1878.
974, p 353• I was fascinated by the biographical sketch of Daniel Webster Harrier that you found on your Vacaville expedition. It is remarkable that you could remember my interest in him; the sketch significantly increases my knowledge of the old gentleman. It confirms census data of 1860 which places him in Wet Ravine, Forest City, Sierra County with his first wife, Mary Antonia. No children are listed.
976• OAKLAND, March 31.–The death today at his home in Oakland of Daniel Webster Harrier, aged 81 years, marks the passing of one of the early settlers of Nevada county. Harrier was a native of Pennsylvania and came to this state in 1854, going at once to Nevada county, where he drove a stage coach all through the period of the Civil War. In 1867 he moved to Vallejo, where he remained until ten years ago, when he went to San Francisco. For the past five years he has resided in this city. He is survived by his widow and the following children: Judge L. G. Harrier, Daniel Webster Harrier, Jr., and Mrs. Maude Heynemann of Oakland; Victor V. Harrier of Palo Alto and Mrs. J. C. Ragsdale of Milwaukee. Funeral services will be held in Vallejo.
