• Gretchen and I met Bert on Tuesday, June 6, 1989 at his highway construction site on Ontario Provincial highway 80 near Brigden, Ontario, Canada. Bert was the foremen of a major highway repair crew. Employee of Huron Construction Co. Says he has worked "ten seasons" for them. Very proud of spending $12,000 on an organ for his home to pass the winters.
• Never married.
• Sent complete information on Arnold family.
• Received Christmas card, December 1995, stating that his mother and brother had died this year.
• Christmas card 2000: On Nov 1st I moved into St. Andrew’s for 6 winter months and expect to return to the farm in the summer.
[St. Andrew’s Residence, 224-99 Park St., Chatham, ON; telephone 351-8326.]
• We received your Christmas newsletter to Bert Wees.
I am sorry to have to tell you that Bert passed away Palm Sunday, April 8, 2001.
I was Bert’s first cousin, and my wife and I are executors of his estate.
His health had been slipping, but he was looking forward to moving back to the farm from St Andrews Residence at the end of April.
That Sunday, he stopped at the farm on his way to church. When he didn’t arrive at church, they sent someone to check on him and he was gone. It came as quite a shock to us, but for Bert it was probably the best way.
