• Possibly he was married to a girl named Margaret, born in Vermont, aged 19 in 1850 - for she appears, along with John, in William G’s household in the 1850 census, in Cottreville (St. Clair county), and a baby girl, Mary is after their names.1495, pp 1-2
• In 1846 John Sr. bought the steamship “Huron” from Eber Ward, brother of Sam Ward, and ran her between Detroit and Sault Ste. Marie until 1848. He then built the “Franklin Moore” and ran the same course. She ultimately broke up in a storm while being operated by his brother David.1500, p 4
• John Gallagher operated a bank which was located at German and Washington streets [Saginaw].1600, p 3
• John’s obituary said he left Saginaw to go to Albee Twp., where he had purchased land some time earlier. It also said: “He was 65 and had been city treasurer in 1874, had laid out subdivisions to the city and had a private bank. Following the panic of 1873 he became financially involved and lost heavily. He leaves one son in Colorado and a daughter.”1500, p 4
