1855, p 168• No record of the death or probate of the estate of John Holmes Sr. has been found. He died sometime between the payment of this quit rent tax [9 June 1713], and 13 April 1715, when the town of Bedford laid out four acres of land “to Joseph Holmes, upon ye accompt of a former grant from ye town of Bedford to John Holmes, deceaced.”
1851, p 276• When researching this family line, care must be exercised in distinguishing between this John Holmes, Sr. and John Holmes (1639-1729) of Beverly, Co York, EN, who was also one of the proprietors of Bedford, Westchester Co, NY.
1874, p 1• John Holmes was one of those stating intentions in 1667 of placing their horses in Stamford’s new horse pasture. He was registered for one horse. In 1671 and 1675 he was elected to the office of fence viewer for the East Field in Stamford, and as a townsman in 1672 and 1678.
