• He was a sheriff in New London; a member of the First Alarm List Co., serving under Capt. John Deshon; he turned out at the Lexington Alarm and carried the news of the battle of Bunker Hill to New London. He lived in New London until April 5, 1750-1, when he removed to the farm in Stonington, owned by his grandfather, Joshua(3) Hempstead. After the death of his grandfather, Joshua(5) returned to the homestead in New London, which became his by inheritance.2429, p 7
