• Came to America with her uncle, Samuel Hinckley, about 1634. The Snow-Estes Genealogy has the following: “Edward Sturgis, b. England 1613; d. Sandwich 1695; m. Elizabeth Hinckley, daughter of Thomas and Anna Hinckley, with whom whe came to America.”2682, p 7
• I have it on the highest authority from one who has actually seen the ship’s list that Elizabeth, a niece of Samuel Hinckley, came out with him and his family. She was in his household at Scituate, and I believe continued in it there, and at Barnstable for five years until the spring of 1640, when she met Edward Sturgis and married him.2678, p 12

• [He] came from England about 1634, and in 1639 was of Yarmouth, Mass. He was the son of Philip Sturgis of England, and was the progenitor of all the Sturgises of Barnstable Co., Mass. His son, Edward, Jr., married Temperance, daughter of Capt. John and Desire (Howland) Gorham. Desire Howland was the daughter of Capt. John and Elizabeth (Tilley) Howland, both of whom were pilgrims in the Mayflower.2671, pp 780-1
