Individual Notes
• Hannah Dwight came to America with her nonconformist parents and others with the “celebrated” preacher, John Rogers, of Dedham, England. They were given permission to settle in what became Dedham, Massachusetts (they wanted to call the place ‘Contentment’ but the General Court of Massachusetts chose to call these commons Dedham). Nathaniel and Hannah owned a grist mill (which apparently had been capitalized at least in part by her father, John Dwight, a prosperous townsman and selectman).2470, p 3

Individual Notes
• 5th son.2713, p 3

• The Founder of the American family.
Nathaniel Whiting came from Horspole Grange, Desford, Leicester Co. He was heir to his father’s estate and left England prior to 1638 for this country.2468, p 1

• Nathaniel Whiting should be remembered, not only as a man of purity and integrity, and an honorable and successful merchant of the elder generation, but as one of the chief benefactors of Boston, and as a man whose breadth of view, energy and perseverance have seldom been equalled.2714, p 283

• Granted a track of land in Lynn, Mass. in 1638.2468, p 2

• The Nathaniel Whiting above was one of the original proprietors of Dedham, as entered in the records of the Town, under date of 6th of 12th month, 1642.1884, p 21

• Nathaniel was a very successful business man. When he died, his will was probated higher than John Dwight’s (one of the richest men in Dedham). At the time of Nathaniel’s death, his family owned three mills in Dedham and he owned land in two other towns.2470, p 3

• I am a Whiting descendant, and have validated proof that the Nathaniel that married Hannah was the son of Rev. Timothie Whiting and Anne Bunning. The Nathaniel you are referring to who married Frances Bunning only had two children. Nathaniel who married Judith Thurgood, no children, and Anne born 1609. My proof is from family Bibles, validated church records from England, etc.2713
