• Concerning this Thomas Brownell, very little is known, save that the is the ancestor of all the Brownells in the United States, except some of recent immigration. He was born in 1619. He came from Derbyshire, England.2556, p 10

• Thomas Brownell was in Portsmouth, Rhode Island Colony, New England by 1647, for on March 18 of that year he was one of the witnesses to the will made on that date by John Walker of Portsmouth. He died at Portsmouth before Nov. 6, 1665. He married Ann Bourne.2574, p 35

• He was killed by running into a tree while riding a horse in Portsmouth, R. I.2569
