• WILLIAM ALMY1 (Christopher, Thomas, John) b a gentleman, probably in dunton Bassett or South Kilworth, about 1600, d in Portsmouth 28 Feb 1677. William was the first settler of the Almy name in America. He first appeared in Massachusetts Bay in 1631, later returned to England with his wife, Audrey, and again embarked on the ship Abigail in 1635 with his wife and two children. He went to Lynn, Mass., then to Sandwich, Mass. He sold his lands there about 1642 and settled permanently in Portsmouth.
2850• His will, dated February 1676, was proved April 23, 1677, in which he mentions his “daughter Anne,” who married John Greene, Deputy Governor of Rhode Island.
