Individual Notes
• Son of George Arritt.2911

• First married to Diannah Sizer, daughter of Fielding Sizer. He abandoned his family for some three or four years and left Virginia. He was seen in the east Kanawha Valley where he supposedly had gone to escape the war. While living in Gallipolis, Ohio, he married Nancy Ault who died during the birth of their child, Amilda. Jacob subsequently returned to Alleghany County, Virginia, in 1867 with the daughter, Amilda, and later married Margaret Lena Wolfe.2912, pp 12-13

• Of course, Jacob was not in the war.2905, p 1

• [He] inherited land on Potts [Creek] as a result of death of Joanna Arritt who died intestate. He abandoned his family some three or four years hence and removed to parts unknown. He came back in 1867.2910, p 4

• Alleghany County Land & Property Deeds:2913
Nov 12 1868: Arritt, Jacob A. & wife to Moses G. Wright Trustee Deed book 6; page 300
Jan 9 1869: Arritt, Jacob A. & wife to L. A. Hall Deed book 6; page 318

• Jacob apparently left for parts unknown about 1861 and did not return until 1867. In the book where I found this information, I could not distinguish between 1861 and 1869. However, the 1867 was clear so you would have to assume he left in 1861 or perhaps a little later. At any rate, he was in Ohio in 1864 when Amilda A. J. was born. She is with him in the 1870 census, age 6.
In 1870, of course, he is already living with Margaret. I would very much like to find a marriage record but so far no one has. Of course, it is possible Floyd was child of Jacob, even though he was married to Margaret at the time of his birth. I have my notes in a box with many other notes, about how long Dianah tried to collect child support from Jacob, when she started and when she stopped.2914, p 2

• When I was a small child, I lived next door to Marshall and Sadie Crawford Wolfe and their children. I had no contact with them for at least 45 years. Sometime shortly after starting into genealogy, I got a letter from Sadie Wolfe. She gave me a lot of information at first but was not in good health. One of the things Sadie told me was that Jacob had gone to Gallipolis, Ohio and had walked all the way from there carrying his child on his shoulder and brought her back to Potts Creek. This child was Amilda Alice J. Arritt, mother of the above Marshall Wolfe. Alice was born in Ohio to Jacob and Nancy Ault who died in childbirth. I was told they were never married but I have never searched the records for a marriage.2905, pp 2-3
