• John Hall, Sen., was not distinguished in public life. In 1647 he was constable of the town of “Bastable,” as the name of the town was sometimes written by the early inhabitants. He was surveyor of highways in Yarmouth in 1653, and on the grand inquest in 1657 and 1664. As a private citizen, he was eminently distinguished for his moral worth and religious character. A more honest and upright man in all his dealings, it would be difficult to find.2514, p 451
