• George Schaeffer II recalled William being born in the United States and dying around 1950.
2965• George Schaeffer II said that the Schaeffer’s lived on Wyse Ave. in the Bronx “in the beginning”, but spent most of George Berenger’s life in Jersey City.
2965• William and Mary lived near Bronxville, NY; it was “all country then.”
3116• I don’t think my grandparents went to church at all and doubt there would have been a family Bible.
3119, p 5• Some of the new things I learned from Marilyn yesterday regarding her grandfather, William Henry Schaeffer, was that at some point he lived in upstate New York and worked in Canada. Her mother told the story of how he would walk across the St. Laurence river to go to work, and when it was frozen over it really shortened his commute! Marilyn didn't know what he did for work there or if he did this prior to Frances' birth, only that he lived there for a short time. Also, Frances recalls being given pennies to pick up milk at the dairy farm next to where they lived. The question is, were there dairy farms in the Bronx in the early 1900's or is she recalling upstate New York? Marilyn was going to try and find out. She's pretty sure that William and Mary Schaeffer were Lutheran. She has a few family bibles she said she'd send me to keep; there wasn't any information in them that would be helpful (she already looked)

Individual Notes
• William and Mary moved from New York to Jersey City after George was born in 1903, because he was the last child born to them, in New York.
3116• Surname spelled Berringer.
2973• Mother of seven children by this marriage; seven children now living.
3117• I just spoke to Marylin Evers and we had a nice conversation. She does remember her mother Frances saying her mother, Mary Beringer, came over to the US as a baby (about 2 years old).
3118• She was heavy and I don’t think she went up the steps any more. She died at age 68 or 69 – had a heart attack (?) while cleaning the bath tub as I recall. I was 10 years old.
