• Frederick Calkins & Ephraim Peterson and his son were the first settlers in the Township of Corning, 1789; in the Autumn and the following Spring he became one of the original Purchases.
Frederick Calkins came from Vermont, with Mead but returned to his Vermont home to marry returning Jan 1790 with his wife. She was the first white woman to live in the Valley and their first child - James - was the first white child born there.2703, p 188
