Individual Notes
• I have also enclosed a sheet, taken from Mrs. Sharps, about the parentage of James Gilbert Calkins, b 1732. James Sr. and Elizabeth Curtis were not married, and he denied being the father. She and her father sued him in court, but he won and was awarded court costs. Despite that fact, James Jr. kept the Calkins name, and historians and genealogists have accepted him as a Calkins descendant. James Sr. later attended Yale Univ. and became a minister. Just a little Black Sheep stuff to add to the records.2746
