Individual Notes
• There is a chance that his [John Short] father, Thomas Short, was that Thomas mentioned in the will of John Short of Stafford Co., VA., dated Aug. 7, 1763. The will mentions wife Theodosia and children James, Thomas, John, Mary, Sarah, Margaret, Elizabeth and Ann.2845

• When John Short was born in 1756, his father Thomas Short was living in Tigart Valley, Virginia. The settlers of this area were an independent lot, pleased to handle their own affairs. They left few records of their early years. Nothing is known of Thomas Short and his family, except that he was of Scottish descent and that he lived out his years in the Tigart Valley, in the area now known as Shenandoah County, Virginia.2837, p 1
