• It has been said that the first white settlements in York County were made in 1630. Hansfords may be classified as being among the first of the these settlers as a county record bearing the date August 12, 1645 states “whereas by an order of the Counsell of Warr -- there are nineteen days work yet due from John Hansford, etc.
John Hansford was a Justice for York County Court May 8, 1652 and again January 25, 1657. He was commissioned a Major, because after his death “Elizabeth, widow of Major John Hansford” married Edward Lackey.2855, p 1
