To the Honorable John Dean Caton presiding Judge of the circuit court in and for the county of Ogle and the State of Illinois.
I Freeman Martin an alien born free white person of the age 21 years do hereby in conformity with the first condition specified in the first section of the act of Congress entitle "An Act to establish an uniform rule of naturalization and to repeal the acts heretofore xxxxx on the subject" approved the 11th day of April 1802 declare and make known to the said Circuit Court that my true and proper name is Freeman Martin, that I was born in the Township of xxxx in the province of Upper Canada of the Kingdom of Great Britain on or about the twenty second day of April AD 1823 that I am about twenty one years old that I belong to the British nation and owed allegiance to the Queen of Great Britain that I migrated from said township of xxxx in said Province and Kingdom on or about the month of June 1839 and arrived at the Port of Ogdensburg in the State of New York and in the United States of America. In the month of June or July AD 1839 that I have since my first arrival remained within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the said United States. And that it is bona fide my intention to renounce forever my allegiance and fidelity to every foreign province, potentate, state or sovereignty whatever and more particularly such allegiance and fidelity as I was in anywise owe to the said Queen of Great Britain either as a citizen or subject and to become a citizen of the United Sates and to locate myself for the jurisdiction (?) the Honorable J. D. Gaton Judge of the Circuit court in and for the County of Ogle and State of Illinois.
