• [excerpts] William H. Martin, father of State Senator Charles I. Martin, died this morning at 8:30 at his home, 824 South Holbrook street, after an illness that dates only since Monday.
Mr. Martin engaged in the feed and coal business where he operated this enterprise for several years. Later he embarked in the grocery business and the few years preceding his death conducted a grocery establishment at Seventh and National avenue.
Mr. Martin had been a devout Methodist for well over the half-century mark. His long life of usefulness spanned the Scriptural statute of limitations and was filled with deeds of benevolence, love and charity.3754
