• Samuel Nettleton, an immigrant ancestor, was one of the men who bought (Totoket) Branford, for a settlement, they came to occupy their purchase early in 1644. Most of the settlers were from Wethersfield. He died in Fairfield, Connecticut 1655 or 1656. His wife's name was Maria -----. She died in Branford, October 29, 1658.

• It has always been a matter of wonder to the compiler why, when the name Mary happened to be spelled “Marie” in early records, some family historians should insist on retaining the spelling Marie or even convert it into Maria.
