The memorial of George Wurtele, Josias Wurtele, John George Reinhardt, Jonathan Eckart, Junior, and Gottlieb Bauer….Humbley sheweth That your memorialists are Natives of Germany and came into this Province about 4 years ago, and that they are desirous of settling and improving a Tract of land upon the Grand River. They therefore pray your Lordship will be pleased to grant them two hundred acres of land for each person.1318, p 2

• The last sibling of William Roberts Eckart was born and both of his parents died within one month in early 1812. From the record it would appear that they left, as orphans, 7 children ranging from 14 year old Margaretha to the newly born infant Henry. While later records indicate that many of these children remained in Quebec City for some time, it does not show who looked after their care and nurture. After 1812 there seem to have been no Eckart entries in Church Registers in Quebec City until 1828 – a strong indication that the two Jonathan Eckarts who died in 1794 and 1812 were the only Eckarts who emigrated to Quebec.1188, p 2, note 13

• I do not believe that my findings completely rule out the possibility that one or both Jonathan Eckarts was a Londoner at one time or another. They appear to have been of the merchant class with much better than average education and many such families had branches in both England and Germany. • The Reinhart/Eckart names first appear at an 1805 Quebec baptism for Jonathan Eckart/Elizabeth Robert's child Isaac, where John Reinhart was godfather (your web site).
- in 1805 John Reinhart was a Grand Juror in Quebec along with Josias Wurtele, Jonathan Eckart. I've located their signatures on various jury files at Canadian National Archives. The name Wurtele also appears in many Reinhart papers; Josias's son went on to become a famous Quebec judge.
- 1806 records list John Reinhart vs Eckart in 'Court of Common Please' - small claims court. Haven't located that file.
- 1820 Quebec City, John Reinhart purchases a lot (and "heirs Eckart" purchase a nearby lot) in heart of what is now old Quebec.1322

• No comprehensive passenger lists of Canadian ship arrivals have survived prior to 1865. A few scattered lists do survive though and are at the Archives of Canada, Ottawa.1323, p 2

• The “French Regime” lasted until 1763. After the defeat of the French, many British regiments were demobilized in both the northern colonies (Upper Canada, now Ontario, and Lower Canada, now Quebec) and in the southern colonies (Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, etc.), and many of these regiments had been recruited on the European mainland, principally in Holland and Germany. Others were Scotch and Welsh regiments. This leads to the theory that Isaac Roberts and Jonathan Eckart may have been members of such regiments and that Jonathan was joined by his nephew, son of Martin Eckart, but also named Jonathan. This is no more than a guess. There is absolutely no documentary proof of where either Isaac Roberts or Jonathan Eckart came from or why they emigrated.1188, p 4
